The past week or so I’ve had some great times on the water. Not only because of the fishing but the people I’ve had to share it with.

The other day our longtime family friend Dick Hanousek was in town to fish. We had a great day on the water and Dick enjoyed fishing a new river. Dick is now 73 and has been Fly Fishing for almost 40 years. He has some great stories not only about trips on the river, but how to live life. He caught some nice fish the other day but what i will remember most is Dick’s relaxed and pensive mindset on the river. As the sun angled into the late afternoon, we anchored up on the side of a riffle for a short snack. With the sun reflecting off the clear water, and the smell of dry pine needles in the air, I listened to him talk about life and the different bends and turns it takes. Times like that really makes me realize whats important and why I love Fly Fishing and the places it takes me. It’s a great reminder to slow down in life and not get so caught up in the fast paced world.
