Yesterday my Dad and I headed to Upper Red Lake in Northern Minnesota for a quick overnight trip in hopes of some walleyes through the ice. We rented a permanent ice shack for the night to sleep overnight in and fish. We reached our shack a couple miles out on the ice and got to fishing. As daylight dimmed we started getting into some nice ‘eyes.
Bonus Perch
Right before we crawled into our bunks, my Dad pulled in a nice 18 incher.
With the heater cooking and the wind howling outside we went to sleep…only to be awaken in the middle of the night with a broken heater. We figured the 40+ mph had blew the pilot light out and we could not get a spark after that. Getting cold quick and fearful of a gas leak, we spent the rest of the night in the truck…not exactly the most comfortable place. When morning finally came and it got light outside we saw how much of a blizzard we were stuck in.
Fortunately our truck was big enough to charge it’s way through the snow drifts and back to shore. It was definitely an eventful, but fun trip up north.
