I haven’t blogged in a while in large part to having my iphone (which is also my camera) run over by a car. I should have it back soon and will post some more then. Anyway, the days are getting shorter and colder everyday, and most of the trees are in peak colors. The fishing for the most part has been good. Streamer fishing is pretty good in places, and we have started to see some good baetis hatches, among other mayflies. I was out dry fly fishing yesterday, and we found success with smaller, low profile cripples and emerger patterns (what’s new).
Cody and I recently tripped it down to Dillon to fish the Big Hole with Cody’s friend, Aram. Aram is a signature fly tyer for Idlywilde and has some awesome patterns. Check out his Lil Kim, this streamer looks and moves great in the water and has proven to be pretty productive. We streamer fished most of the time on the Big Hole and caught some nice Brown Trout.
We also brought a scattergun along…
We’ve still been chasing ducks pretty hard as well, and good numbers have moved in. But a lot have also moved out. Birds that generally move by the calendar like ringnecks, gadwall, widgeon, canvasbacks, among others, should filter through in the last couple weeks of October.
Thanks for reading, more posts coming soon.
Photo credit goes to Cody for the awesome shots.
